Chilean Foreign Minister begins diplomatic mission to Asia
Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna has begun a four-day official mission to China, Vietnam, and Japan. The trip serves as preparatory work for President José Antonio Kast’s upcoming visit to China for the APEC summit in November.
In China, the country's primary trading partner, the minister will meet with high-ranking officials, including Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vice Premier He Lifeng. The mission aims to attract productive investment and promote the ‘Choose Chile’ plan to expand external sales and capital capture. Discussions are expected to cover strategic and economic cooperation, including the Belt and Road Initiative.
In Vietnam, the agenda focuses on expanding ties in renewable energy, mining, agriculture, and technology. The final leg of the trip in Japan seeks to strengthen relations with Chile’s second-largest Asian trading partner ahead of the 130th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2027.
