Chilean government faces coordination hurdles after economic reform

The Chilean government is facing challenges in maintaining political momentum following the approval of a major economic reform. While the administration demonstrated an ability to build a legislative majority for the economic package, it now faces the more difficult task of securing the four-sevenths parliamentary majority required for constitutional reforms regarding public security.

Internal coordination issues have emerged within La Moneda. Recent controversies include the resignation of a minister and a subsecretary due to lack of experience, as well as communication breakdowns regarding a filing before the Constitutional Court. Minister of the Interior Martín Arrau has sought to clarify that proposed constitutional changes are limited in scope to avoid reopening broader, failed constitutional debates, aiming to mitigate concerns from right-wing sectors.
