Chilean government officials admit internal communication failures
Chilean government officials have acknowledged a lack of internal coordination regarding a legal challenge filed before the Constitutional Court. The challenge targets an article within the Reconstruction Plan that would mandate utility companies—including electricity, water, and gas providers—to provide free service reconnections to residential users and small businesses in disaster zones without requiring prior payment.
Claudio Alvarado, the biminister of the Interior and the General Secretariat of Government, admitted he was unaware of the government's legal action when questioned during a press briefing. Security Minister José García Ruminot addressed the discrepancy, acknowledging a “difficulty in more formal internal communication” within the Executive branch.
García Ruminot defended Alvarado, stating he believed the minister's claim of being uninformed and dismissed any suggestion that information was intentionally withheld. He attributed the lapse to an intense workload and suggested that the decision had been discussed within the political committee, though Alvarado may not have been present during those specific deliberations.
