Chilean government urges households to redeem gas vouchers
The Chilean government has issued a call for over one million households to claim their gas vouchers before the deadline on September 30. As part of the ‘Chile Sale Adelante’ plan, the benefit was designed to mitigate rising fuel costs.
Data from Banco Estado and the Ministry of the Interior indicates that 5,170,118 households activated the benefit, with 4,079,084 (78.9%) already having collected it. Approximately 1,091,034 households, or 21.1%, have yet to redeem the funds. The subsidy provides up to 27,000 pesos, an amount intended to cover the average cost of a 15-kilogram gas cylinder, which is approximately 22,500 pesos.
Interior Undersecretary Máximo Pavez noted that four out of five households that activated the benefit have already used it. To access the funds, beneficiaries must use the Rutpay or BancoEstado applications, or visit a CajaVecina location in person. The benefit was directed at households within the most vulnerable 80% of the Social Registry of Households.
