Chilean labor market faces growing skills gap and automation needs

Labor market trends in Chile are highlighting a growing gap between employer requirements and available worker competencies. In the Maule region, the Observatorio Laboral del Maule (OLM) is preparing for the 2027 National Labor Demand Survey (ENADEL). Recent data from 2025 indicated significant transformations, with 58.2% of surveyed companies stating they will need to train employees in new technologies over the next five years, while 37.8% anticipate accelerating task automation.

In Quillota, local employment mediation services report that while sectors such as agriculture, agro-industry, logistics, construction, and transport maintain steady demand, companies struggle to fill specific roles. The primary obstacle is not a lack of applicants, but a mismatch in required experience and technical skills. Local officials emphasize that the current challenge lies in bridging the gap between territorial competencies and the specific profiles demanded by the private sector.
