Chilean Lung Cancer Foundation launched to improve diagnosis and support

The Chilean Lung Cancer Foundation has been officially launched to address the leading cause of oncological death in the country. Led by founder and director Lyli Mikkelsen, the organization aims to increase disease visibility, provide support networks for families, dismantle associated stigmas, and advocate for public policies to improve timely access to treatment.

Medical experts and former minister Karla Rubilar highlighted the severity of the crisis, noting that four out of five patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage. However, early detection could increase survival rates to 90%. The foundation also noted a concerning 30% increase in diagnoses among non-smoking women aged 25 to 40, signaling a shift in the typical patient profile.
