Chilean mining companies host students for professional training

Mining operations in Chile are hosting various groups of students to provide practical experience and professional training within the industry.

At Codelco’s Ministro Hales Division, students from various parts of Chile have arrived in Calama to conduct professional internships and thesis research. These students aim to gain experience in safety, production, and sustainability standards. Participants noted the importance of the company’s connection to local indigenous communities and the opportunity to follow family traditions within the mining sector.

Separately, 33 mining engineering students from the University of Chile visited Minera El Abra as part of a field tour. The visit allowed students to observe the production process of copper cathodes from the mine to the cathode yard. The experience focused on current mining challenges, such as the transition toward sulfide exploitation due to aging deposits, and provided practical insight into field safety standards.
