Global health alerts issued for contaminated food and counterfeit drugs

Multiple health authorities across several countries have issued warnings regarding contaminated food and counterfeit medications.

In Chile, the Ministry of Health ordered the immediate recall of Cuisine & Co unsalted roasted peanuts (300g, lot 103969, expiration September 30, 2026) due to the presence of toxic aflatoxins, which are linked to liver cancer. Cencosud, the retailer for the brand, has initiated a return process.

In Venezuela, health officials identified counterfeit batches of oncology medications, specifically Perjeta (Pertuzumab) lot JN824 and Herceptin (Trastuzumab) lot N7753B01, both registered to Roche. Authorities warned that these products are of unknown origin and pose grave health risks.

In the United States, the FDA recalled five types of bread distributed in New York due to undeclared allergens, including milk and sesame. Additionally, the CDC issued an alert regarding an E. coli and Salmonella outbreak linked to alfalfa sprouts affecting 15 states.

In Mexico, authorities warned against consuming wild mushrooms due to the risk of toxic species being mistaken for edible ones, and in Colombia, Invima issued an alert for counterfeit Bonfiest Plus medication.
