Overview

Health authorities across several regions have issued warnings regarding contaminated food products and counterfeit or unregistered medications.

In South and Central America, specific concerns have been raised regarding oncology medications. In Venezuela, authorities identified counterfeit batches of Perjeta (Pertuzumab) and Herceptin (Trastuzumab), noting that the origin and sterility of these products cannot be guaranteed. Panama has also warned against the illegal sale of unregistered medicines via the brand AminoLives, while Peru is investigating the suspected diversion of nutritional products.

Medication shortages have also emerged as a critical issue, particularly in Honduras, where reports indicate that a significant percentage of patients in the public health network have not received full treatments.

Simultaneously, food safety alerts have been issued globally. These include the recall of peanuts due to toxic aflatoxins in Chile, bread recalls due to undeclared allergens in the United States, and an E. coli and Salmonella outbreak linked to alfalfa sprouts in the U.S. Additionally, Mexican authorities have warned against the consumption of wild mushrooms due to the risk of toxicity.
