Chilean Ministry of Housing announces 2027 budget and subsidy results
The Chilean Ministry of Housing and Urbanism (Minvu) has announced a 5.8% increase in its 2027 budget, totaling 4,816,762 million pesos. While the increase aims to support government housing goals and reconstruction efforts, several key programs face significant funding cuts. The Precarious Settlements program will see a 48.5% reduction, dropping from 25,953 million pesos in 2026 to 13,356 million pesos in 2027. Additionally, rental subsidies are expected to decrease by 17.1%, and loans for middle and emerging sectors will fall by 25.6%.
In a separate development regarding housing assistance, Minvu released the results for the first national call of 2026 for the DS1 Middle Sector Subsidy. Out of 56,956 applicants, 6,943 individuals were selected to acquire new or used homes, or to build on their own land. The selected group is distributed across three application tiers, with 30.5% in Tier 1, 37.2% in Tier 2, and 32.3% in Tier 3. The majority of selected families (95.6%) will use the benefit for home acquisition.
