Chilean Ministry of Public Works reviews infrastructure in Puerto Williams
The Chilean Ministry of Public Works (MOP) conducted a three-day working agenda in the Chilean Antarctic Province to review strategic connectivity and infrastructure projects in the Cabo de Hornos commune.
Led by Magallanes regional minister Alejandro Marusic and provincial presidential delegate Rodolfo Moncada, the delegation met with Mayor Patricio Fernández to monitor several key initiatives. These include port infrastructure improvements, the Puerto Williams coastal edge enhancement, and the engineering study for a road connection between Caleta Eugenia and Puerto Toro, which is currently 99% complete.
Public building projects under review include the Puerto Williams Sports Center, the replacement of the 4th Police Station, and a new Carabineros station in Yendegaia. Additionally, authorities announced a planned 1.5 billion Chilean peso study for the normalization of Route Y-905 on Navarino Island, scheduled to begin in December 2026. This study aims to optimize the layout, curves, and road width for a 54.5 kilometer stretch.
