Chilean municipalities launch national sports congress and inclusion initiatives

The Chilean Association of Municipalities (ACHM) has launched the First National Congress of Sport and Municipalism, scheduled for August 27–29. The event aims to professionalize local sports management by bringing together authorities, specialists, and organizations to discuss security, innovation, inclusion, and urban planning.

In conjunction with these efforts, the ACHM has signed collaboration agreements with Special Olympics Chile and the Local Organizing Committee for the Santiago 2027 Special Olympics World Games. These agreements seek to extend the inclusive legacy of the 2027 games—which will host over 6,000 athletes from 170 countries—to all 16 regions of Chile.

The partnerships will focus on training municipal teams, organizing sports clinics, identifying local athletes, and promoting inclusive sporting spaces. Sports Minister Natalia Duco and ACHM Sports Commission President Roberto Neira emphasized that municipal programs serve as the foundation for athlete development and national sports policy.
