Chilean municipalities replace sidewalks and remove abandoned hopper to improve public safety

In Copiapó, municipal crews replaced loose, defective paving stones on the Colipí street sidewalk after numerous complaints and injuries. Local merchant Patricio Caroca reported that dozens of pedestrians, especially women wearing high heels and older adults, had fallen, prompting a coordinated effort with the municipality to fix the problem.

In Rancagua, the city government removed an abandoned hopper that had been parked on Diagonal La Capilla, blocking the sidewalk and creating a risk for pedestrians, including those with reduced mobility. The removal followed a resident report and is part of the municipality’s ongoing program to clear abandoned vehicles and restore public space. Mayor Raimundo Agliati highlighted the cooperation between citizens and municipal teams in enhancing safety and reclaiming community areas.
