Chilean municipalities report developments in public library services
Municipalities in Chile are reporting significant developments in their public library systems. In Copiapó, the Municipal Public Library is scheduled to reopen its physical space on October 29 following a period of displacement caused by an earthquake. The renovated facility will offer over 3,000 titles for free loan and will host various cultural events throughout October, including the ‘Week of the Depths’ organized by the Copiapó Municipal Symphony Orchestra.
In Puerto Varas, the Children's Library has reached a milestone of over 8,000 visits and 5,000 book loans within its first six months of operation. Combined with the Paul Harris Public Library, the local network has recorded more than 16,000 total visits. This initiative, integrated into the Chilean Public Library Network through an agreement with the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, aims to foster reading habits among younger generations.
