Chilean nutrition and food rights initiatives presented at international forums

Chilean experts and programs are gaining international recognition for their approaches to food security and nutrition. At the Global Child Nutrition Forum in Lusaka, Zambia, the Chilean program “Del litoral a la escuela” is being showcased to representatives from 66 countries. This initiative, a collaboration involving Oceana, the Aysén region's Puerto Gala Union No. 1, the FoF Foundation, and Subpesca, aims to integrate seafood from artisanal fishing into school menus to improve child nutrition and support coastal economies.

Additionally, at the XXI Latin American Congress of Nutrition (SLAN 2026) in Santiago, Catalina González of the University of Valparaíso presented on the legislative challenges regarding the right to food in Latin America and the Caribbean. Representing the Observatory of the Right to Food of Chile (ODA-Chile) in a panel with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), González analyzed food security laws and sustainable food systems, comparing Chilean legislative progress with regional trends.
