Chilean organizations mark National Environmental Day
Various organizations in Chile marked National Environmental Day on October 2 through reforestation and educational initiatives.
In Punta Arenas, the Agrupación Ecológica de la Patagonia, Aguas Magallanes, and the local municipality collaborated to plant 40 lenga trees near Avenida Frei. The project, which included students from Escuela Villa Las Nieves, aimed to restore local spaces and strengthen native flora. This partnership follows previous joint efforts to clean the Tres Puentes wetland.
In Mejillones, the Asociación de Industriales Químicos de Chile (ASIQUIM) organized an educational event titled ‘Cambio Climático: El Poder de EcoActuar’. Led by meteorologist Gianfranco Marcone, the program focused on global warming and sustainable practices for students from three environmentally certified schools. The event was supported by the Municipality of Mejillones and the Antofagasta Regional Ministry of the Environment.
