Chilean regional exports show growth in Biobío and Ñuble

Exports from the Biobío region of Chile grew by 2.1% between January and September 2026, totaling US$ 3,548 million. According to ProChile, this growth was driven by significant increases in the manufacturing sector, which rose by 59%, and the fishing and aquaculture sector, which grew by 20.3%.

While the forestry sector remains the largest component of Biobío’s exports at US$ 2,028 million, it experienced a 4.7% decline. Key products included cellulose, sawn wood, and wood panels. In the fishing sector, Chilean jack mackerel led exports, followed by fishmeal and fish oils.

In the Ñuble region, wood exports reached US$ 35.3 million in September 2026, a 51.7% increase compared to the same month in 2025. For the first nine months of the year, Ñuble’s cumulative wood exports totaled US$ 252.8 million, a 3.5% increase. Despite this recovery, regional small and medium-sized enterprises face challenges due to a depressed domestic construction market and trade tariffs in the United States.
