Chilean regional export and viticulture trends

Overview

Chilean regional exports have demonstrated growth across various sectors in 2026. In the Biobío region, exports increased by 2.1% between January and September, totaling US$ 3,548 million. This was driven by a 59% rise in manufacturing and a 20.3% increase in fishing and aquaculture, led by Chilean jack mackerel, fishmeal, and fish oils. While the forestry sector remains Biobío’s largest export component at US$ 2,028 million, it saw a 4.7% decline.

In the Ñuble region, wood exports reached US$ 35.3 million in September 2026, a 51.7% increase over the previous year, bringing the nine-month cumulative total to US$ 252.8 million. However, small and medium-sized enterprises continue to face difficulties from a depressed domestic construction market and United States trade tariffs.

The viticulture sector is seeing significant strategic expansion. In Ñuble, the Empresa Asociativa Campesina Moscin exported 4,000 bottles of Moscatel de Alejandría to Sweden, where it was recognized by the state monopoly, Systenbolaget, and featured in the newspaper Dagens Nyheter. To support local producers, the Regional Government and the University of Bío-Bío have established base regulations for a new quality seal for Itata wines, supported by a new technological wine laboratory in Chillán.

In the Maule region, wineries are targeting Latin American markets through commercial missions to Mexico and participation in the ProWine São Paulo fair in Brazil. Additionally, the official launch of WineMaule 2026 aims to promote the territory’s viticultural identity by connecting vineyards with foreign importers and integrating production with regional tourism.
