Chilean court orders DNS blocking of illegal gambling sites

The Santiago Court of Appeals has ordered the DNS-based blocking of unauthorized online gambling domains in Chile. This decision follows a Supreme Court ruling aimed at preventing the promotion and transmission of illegal betting platforms.

The court established a five-stage procedure to ensure compliance while protecting user privacy and cybersecurity. Under this mechanism, authorized entities Lotería de Concepción and Polla Chilena de Beneficencia will identify suspicious domains. The Superintendency of Gambling Machines will then validate these sites, and the Undersecretariat of Telecommunications (Subtel) will notify telecommunications companies—including Claro Chile, Entel, Movistar, WOM, and VTR—to execute the blocks.
