Chilean research fund for media pluralism faces continuity controversy

Controversy has emerged in Chile regarding the continuity of the Fund for Studies on Pluralism in the National Information System. On July 31, the General Secretariat of Government issued an official letter to the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) terminating the agreement to finance this fund.

While the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge, and Innovation has indicated that funding for the fund may still exist, the suspension has drawn criticism from researchers. Experts argue that these studies provide essential evidence for designing public policies to strengthen information quality, particularly in the face of challenges like disinformation, artificial intelligence, and shifting media business models.
