Chilean researchers highlight marine and Antarctic science advancements

Chilean researchers and institutions have demonstrated significant scientific engagement in marine and polar studies through recent international and regional forums.

At the 12th Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) Open Science Conference in Oslo, Norway, a Chilean delegation led by the Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH) presented findings in glaciology, climate change, and polar biodiversity. According to INACH Director Gino Casassa Rogazinski, the conference's abstract book included 127 documents with Chilean affiliations, 66 of which featured Chilean first authors.

In La Serena, researchers from the University of Concepción participated in the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Center for Research on Marine Ecosystems of Oceanic Islands (ESMOI). Discussions focused on ocean connectivity in the Southeast Pacific, the structure of the Nazca and Salas y Gómez seamounts, and the impact of climate change on marine habitats. Research also covered socio-ecological studies in Rapa Nui and the Juan Fernández Archipelago.
