Chilean Senate advances child support bonus bill

The Chilean Senate is advancing a legislative project to establish a special child support bonus. The proposal includes a one-time payment of 30,000 pesos per beneficiary.

To qualify, children must be up to 13 years of age as of June 1, 2026. Additionally, the beneficiaries must belong to households within the most vulnerable 80% of the population, as determined by the Social Household Registry. The Undersecretariat of Social Evaluation will be tasked with determining the official list of eligible recipients.

Under the current proposal, the bonus will not be classified as income or remuneration. Consequently, it will not be subject to taxes, social security contributions, or any other legal deductions. The payment is intended to be automatic for eligible families, requiring no specific application process. The Senate has set August 24 as the deadline for presenting further indications to the bill.
