Chilean Senate approves childhood bonus and advances legislative reforms

The Chilean Senate has approved a project to provide a 30,000 peso bonus to children up to 13 years old belonging to the most vulnerable 80% of households, according to the Social Registry of Households. The benefit also extends to minors in foster care and children born between June 2, 2026, and March 15, 2027.

Other legislative developments include the start of debates regarding universal nursery schools and the approval of a project to penalize reckless driving. Additionally, the Senate's Foreign Relations Commission conducted a visit to Bolivia, meeting with President Rodrigo Paz and other Bolivian Senate authorities.

In committee work, the Education Commission approved a project regarding the transfer of Local Public Education Services (SLEP), while the Economy Commission moved a proposal for technological protection measures in intellectual property legislation to the Senate floor. The Public Security Commission also approved the modernization of the incentive system for Carabineros.
