Chilean students participate in archaeological heritage education programs

Educational initiatives in Chile are introducing students to local archaeological heritage through specialized workshops and didactic guides.

In Paposo, Minera Las Cenizas conducted a seminar at Escuela Paranal for fifth and sixth-grade students. Led by archaeologist Cristian Castillo, the session focused on the history of the Chango people and taught students how to report archaeological finds to local authorities. The activity included practical excavation exercises using wooden boxes to help children recognize historical objects.

In Puerto Varas, the National Monuments Council (CMN) presented a didactic guide to students from Escuela Colonia Rio Sur and Colegio Mirador del Lago. This initiative follows the discovery of a domestic occupation site dating from the late pottery period (1000–1550 AD) during the construction of the Puerto Varas Hospital in early 2023. The educational plan was developed as part of a pilot program to promote heritage awareness within the community.
