Chilean Tax Authority identifies $187 billion in tax discrepancies in Meiggs district

The Chilean Internal Revenue Service (SII) has reported significant tax discrepancies totaling approximately $187 billion pesos following audits in the Meiggs commercial district of Santiago. The investigation, which analyzed financial information from over 3,300 merchants, resulted in a tax yield exceeding $10.4 billion pesos through audits and rectifications.

Of the 111 taxpayers selected for deep review, 48 have regularized their declarations, while 55 remain under investigation. The SII also filed legal complaints against representatives of two shopping centers, referred to as ‘Chinese malls,’ regarding an alleged fiscal loss of over $2.3 billion pesos.

SII Director Jorge Trujillo emphasized that these actions, coordinated with the Municipality of Santiago, aim to combat informal commerce and ensure fair competition for established businesses that fulfill their tax obligations.
