Chilean tax authority audits and disputes

Overview

The Chilean Internal Revenue Service (SII) has initiated significant enforcement actions following audits in Santiago’s Meiggs commercial district. The SII reported identifying approximately $187 billion pesos in tax discrepancies among over 3,300 merchants, resulting in a tax yield exceeding $10.4 billion pesos. Legal complaints were filed against representatives of two shopping centers, described as ‘Chinese malls’, regarding an alleged fiscal loss of over $2.3 billion pesos.

In a separate instance of tax dispute resolution, the Taxpayer Defender (DEDECON) intervened to assist a taxpayer in recovering a 3.2 million peso refund. The funds had been withheld by the SII due to discrepancies linked to employer-provided information, but were released after DEDECON verified the accuracy of the taxpayer’s declarations.
