Chile's 2026 Theatre Festival and Maipú Troupe Funding Gap
The 19th edition of the Festival Internacional de Teatro y Danza (FINTDAZ) will be held from 4 to 18 August 2026 in the Tarapacá region, reaching the communes of Iquique, Pica and Camiña. The opening production is the play “El Amor” by Casanga Zúñiga Teatro, starring actress Ximena Rivas and actor Alejandro Castillo, with support from Renata Gaete and Germán Retamal. The festival is presented by the Compañía de Teatro Antifaz and Cerro Colorado | BHP and financed through several national cultural funds and regional development programs. Lorena Ramírez Muñoz, BHP’s vice‑president for corporate affairs, said the partnership with FINTDAZ fills the organizers with pride.
Separately, the Teatro Pequeño Clan, a physical‑theatre and clown company based in Maipú, Chile, has been invited to perform at FESTIVALLE in Quito, Ecuador, and at La Casa del Jardín in Tarragona, Spain, in October 2026. The troupe, which includes founder Claudio Barbas, director Andrés Del Bosque and designer Luz Javiera Larraín, faces a funding shortfall because the festivals cover only local accommodation and meals, not the international airfare for three members. Barbas explained that the play “El Nacimiento del Payaso” tells the story of a young apprentice who finds strength in faith, but the lack of travel funds threatens the tour.
