Chile's ACERA unveils proposal to integrate over 10 GW of energy storage

The Chilean Association of Renewable Energy and Storage (ACERA) presented a technical proposal to improve the programming and operation of battery storage systems in the National Electric System. The plan, developed with consultancy Vinken after a five‑month study commissioned in December 2025, was delivered at the seminar “Más de 10 GW de almacenamiento en Chile: récords y retos” on 28 July 2026.

The event gathered senior officials—including Subsecretary of Energy Hugo Briones, National Electric Coordinator executive Ramón Castañeda, and the head of the Electric Department of the National Energy Commission Danilo Zurita—alongside ACERA president Sergio del Campo, executive director Ana Lía Rojas, study director Felipe Gallardo, and Vinken director Matías Negrete. ACERA highlighted that Chile now holds more than 10 GW of storage projects in operation, construction or development, marking a shift from merely adding renewable generation to ensuring efficient, high‑value use of storage as a pillar of the electric grid.
