Chile's Arica and Maule Regions Approve Major Water and Health Facility Upgrades

The Regional Council of Arica and Parinacota approved the "Mejoramiento Integral del Sistema Sanitario Rural de Cuya" project, replacing a decade‑old water‑treatment plant with a new facility that will be powered by photovoltaic energy. The upgrade aims to resolve chronic low‑pressure and supply interruptions for the permanent population of about 150 residents and the roughly 3,000 daily travelers who pass through Cuya on Route 5. APR leader Daniel Hume praised the regional support, noting that the new system will provide a "future‑proof" water supply.

In the Maule region, the government inaugurated the Prosperidad Community Health Center (CECOSF) in Curicó. The $1.151 billion Chilean‑peso investment created a 270.6 m² modern clinic equipped with consultation boxes, a gynecological unit, dental services, a procedure room, a 72‑hour generator and a 48‑hour water tank. The center will serve 4,786 users and is part of a broader effort to strengthen primary‑care infrastructure for the region’s 152 000 public‑health clients.
