Chile's Carabineros enhance patrols and launch anti‑livestock‑theft program

In the coastal commune of Cartagena, the municipal government signed a loan agreement with Carabineros, providing four off‑road bicycles and two photographic cameras to the 2nd police station. The equipment is intended to strengthen prevention, patrols and investigations, especially during the summer tourist season. Zone chief Patricia Vásquez highlighted the added capacity for street, beach and terrace patrols, while mayor Lily Silva praised the cooperation and discussed future plans for a new station and a summer plan for 2026‑2027.

In the rural town of Linares, Carabineros issued a set of preventive measures to curb abigeato, the theft of livestock. Recommendations include keeping ownership documents up‑to‑date, maintaining perimeter fences, assigning trusted supervisors, keeping an updated inventory, using ear tags or marks for identification, paying special attention to calves and birthing females, and controlling access of people and vehicles. Authorities urged residents to work together with police to improve rural security.
