Chile's Carabineros expand helicopter fleet in Tarapacá and Atacama
Carabineros de Chile unveiled a new Airbus H145 helicopter in Alto Hospicio, Tarapacá, during a ceremony attended by mayor Patricio Ferreira, local officials and community members. The aircraft, financed with the National Regional Development Fund, is intended to strengthen patrol, emergency response and rescue operations across the northern region.
Separately, regional governor Miguel Vargas announced that a licitation for a multipurpose police helicopter for the Atacama region will begin in the second half of 2026. The procurement, approved by the regional council, has a budget of more than 14.9 billion Chilean pesos (about US$16 million) and will support the future Chamonate Air Operations Center and the establishment of an aerial police unit in Atacama.
