Chile's Carabineros police detains six officers over alleged serious crimes
Six Carabineros personnel – five police officers and one official – were detained and expelled in the Talca East precinct of the Maule region after an internal investigation by the Department of Internal Affairs, in coordination with the Ministry of Public, linked them to alleged serious crimes. Simultaneous arrests were also carried out in Valdivia and Copiapó.
General Director Marcelo Araya described the cases as “grave” and stressed the institution’s zero‑tolerance policy, citing transparency and the duty to preserve public trust. The detained officials were taken to the Third Police Station in Talca and will appear before the local guarantee court; details of the alleged offenses remain sealed to protect the investigation.
