Chilean Carabineros act on robbery case, gun surrender drive and drug bust in June 2026

In Copiapó, prosecutors obtained preventive detention for two suspects linked to a residential robbery. The investigation, led by the newly created OS‑9 unit of Carabineros, recovered stolen belongings and ammunition, while two additional persons are being investigated for receptacle offenses.

In the O'Higgins region, Carabineros chief Guillermo Bohle Guichaco and the regional public‑security minister reinforced a voluntary, anonymous firearm‑surrender campaign. Authorities noted 276 weapons were turned in during 2025 and 29 have been received so far in 2026, with collection points and home‑pickup services available.

Carabineros OS7 Aconcagua carried out simultaneous raids on five homes in San Felipe, detaining a 38‑year‑old man with a criminal record. The operation seized 2.44 kg of marijuana, 207 g of cocaine, cash, a .38‑caliber revolver tied to a robbery, a compressed‑air pistol, eleven live rounds and a 7.62 war‑grade round.

Separately, Carabineros in Linares marked the national Heritage Day by opening historic police facilities to the public, showcasing the former president Carlos Ibáñez del Campo’s office and other institutional artifacts.
