Chile's CONAF reopens La Araucanía parks and launches teacher fire‑prevention training

The National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) announced that, starting Thursday, all protected natural areas in the La Araucanía region are being reopened to the public after safety assessments following a recent weather event. National parks, reserves and natural monuments are now accessible, with the exception of Villarrica National Park, which remains closed because it lacks essential electricity and water supplies. Visitors are urged to check road conditions, weather forecasts, and park guidelines, wear appropriate winter clothing, register at CONAF checkpoints and follow ranger instructions.

In Porvenir, Magallanes region, CONAF conducted its second workshop for teachers on systematic environmental education and forest‑fire prevention. The session covered conservation topics and fire‑management techniques, with a third workshop planned for late July. The training aims to raise awareness and strengthen fire‑risk mitigation as brigade operations wind down after the 2025‑2026 season.
