Publix recalls GreenWise frozen blueberries over E. coli risk

A Chilean company, Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A., voluntarily recalled its 10‑ounce GreenWise Organic IQF frozen blueberries after testing presumptively positive for the Shiga toxin‑producing strain E. coli O145:H28. The FDA notice on July 3 2026 limited the recall to lot code 60401 with a best‑by date of 9 Feb 2028, sold exclusively at Publix supermarkets in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

Health officials reported 12 confirmed cases of illness linked to the product between 11 May and 5 June 2026, including four hospitalisations. No deaths were reported. The outbreak prompted investigations by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration. Consumers are advised to discard the product or return it to the point of purchase for a full refund and to sanitize any containers or surfaces that contacted the berries.
