Publix frozen berry recall

Overview

In early July 2026, Publix began recalling its GreenWise frozen blueberries after a potential E. coli contamination was identified. By month‑end officials confirmed the Shiga‑toxin‑producing E. coli O145:H28 strain, traced to a Chilean producer, was linked to an outbreak that sickened 12 people, four of them hospitalized. The recall was expanded to cover all GreenWise organic frozen blueberries and mixed‑berry packages sold in eight Southern states, and the FDA placed the Chilean supplier on an import alert, detaining future shipments pending inspection.

On July 31, Publix broadened the recall to include every lot of its GreenWise Organic whole blueberries and whole mixed berries, in both 10‑ounce and 48‑ounce packages, sold in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Consumers were instructed to discard the products or return them to any Publix store for a full refund.

On August 2, the FDA announced an expanded, nationwide recall of GreenWise organic frozen blueberries and mixed berries, still targeting the same eight Southern states where the products were sold. The agency confirmed the 12 reported gastrointestinal illness cases and reiterated the call for shoppers to discard the items or return them for a refund.

The same FDA announcement also included a separate voluntary recall of BetterGoods pistachio nut butter sold at Walmart in 19 states after Salmonella was detected in one lot; no illnesses have been reported for that product.
