Chile's Labor Ministry promotes hiring subsidy in Coquimbo and Magallanes regions

Labor Minister Tomás Rau and National Labor Directorate head David Oddó visited the Coquimbo region, which remains under a state of catastrophe, to assess employment conditions. Rau announced an expansion of unemployment‑insurance benefits for workers laid off in the affected area and urged faster communication of the subsidies. He also highlighted the ongoing hiring subsidy program, which offers a direct monthly bonus to firms—up to 50% of a worker’s minimum monthly income and 60% for women—available for up to four months.

Acting SENCE director Rodrigo Valdivia Lefort travelled to Magallanes to publicise the same hiring subsidy. He confirmed 399 slots for companies in the region and called on firms to apply via the government portal. The subsidy targets employees earning less than three times the monthly minimum income and aims to reduce seasonal unemployment during the winter months.
