Chile's Los Ríos and Araucanía prepare water stations for winter floods

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) inspected all 21 fluviometric stations in the Los Ríos region before the start of the 2026 winter season. Officials Ulises Rivera, regional public works secretary, and Francisco Berkhoff, regional water director, said the checks ensure real‑time river level data for early flood warnings and possible evacuations.

In the neighboring Araucanía region, water utility Aguas Araucanía launched a video tutorial to teach residents how to protect water meters from extreme cold. The campaign follows a 2025 freeze that left thousands of homes without water, and it includes on‑site training for community inspectors to prevent future meter failures.
