Chile's Tarapacá Police Seize 5 Tonnes of Drugs and Detain Over 1,400 in 2025 Report

The Regional Police of Tarapacá (PDI) presented its 2025 public account, highlighting a major crackdown on organized crime. Detectives detained 1,479 people, including 998 foreigners, with 27% linked to criminal gangs. The force resolved 15 of 16 homicides, achieving an 88% clearance rate.

Drug interdiction operations seized a historic 5 tonnes of narcotics—cannabis, cocaine base and hydrochloride—along with 155,702 synthetic-dose units, nearly 80 000 liters of chemical precursors, 36 firearms and the dismantling of 12 criminal groups. The report credited new technologies from the Laboratory of Criminalistics and the Digital Operations Management Team for enhancing forensic investigations.

These results were showcased before regional authorities, including the prefect and the regional governor, underscoring the PDI’s commitment to public safety and transnational crime suppression in northern Chile.
