Chile's Valparaíso region receives 10,000 emergency relief items
The Chilean government delivered roughly 10,000 emergency relief items to municipalities in the Valparaíso province after a frontal weather system caused flooding. The aid includes 1,500 mattresses, 3,000 blankets, 1,500 gender‑and age‑specific hygiene kits, 120 bobbins, and 3,000 flood bags. An investment of about 1 billion Chilean pesos also funded the deployment of excavators, motor graders, trucks and pump units to reopen roads, combat water‑logging and restore connectivity.
Regional officials said the assistance is meant to allow a rapid response to any further emergencies. The regional energy authority reported that 99.9 % of customers have had electricity restored, and sanctions are being pursued against some distributors for delayed service restoration.
