Chili prices fluctuate across Indonesian markets due to seasonal supply shifts
Chili prices in various Indonesian markets are experiencing fluctuations due to seasonal and weather-related supply changes. In Padang, prices remained stable as of late September 2026. Red chili from Java was priced at Rp62,000 per kilogram, while bird's eye chili reached Rp70,000 and the spiciest variety, 'cabai rawit setan', was priced at Rp80,000 per kilogram. Daily supplies in Padang remain steady at approximately one ton.
In contrast, markets in Sleman have seen price increases over the past week. Bird's eye chili prices in Sleman reached Rp70,000 per kilogram, up from approximately Rp50,000. The Sleman Department of Industry and Trade (Disperindag) stated that while supply from producers has decreased due to seasonal factors, there is currently no shortage of stock in the eight monitored local markets.
