China accelerates military development of humanoid robots

China is accelerating the development and military application of humanoid robots. Following the World Humanoid Robot Games, where machines demonstrated advanced capabilities in running, boxing, and dancing, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) has called for researchers to expedite the transfer of cutting-edge laboratory technologies to military training grounds.

An analysis of over 100 Chinese military procurement reports, academic studies, and government documents indicates that the Chinese defense sector is focusing on robot perception, object manipulation, and training data to prepare for potential use in combat conditions. Military institutions are testing how these robots can function alongside soldiers and meet battlefield requirements.

China maintains a significant commercial advantage in this sector; according to BofA Global Research, Chinese manufacturers accounted for approximately 95 percent of global humanoid robot shipments in 2025. This commercial dominance provides the PLA with broad access to a rapidly expanding industry as it develops specialized military applications.
