The partnership focuses on creating demonstration sites to evaluate robotic solutions for smart manufacturing and flexible production processes. XPeng is also advancing its humanoid robot project, IRON. Following a $900 million funding round involving investors such as Tencent and Alibaba, the company aims to begin mass production of IRON by the end of 2026, with deliveries expected in early 2027. XPeng plans to introduce the robot to the European market in the second half of 2027. Initially, IRON will be deployed for guided services within XPeng’s own retail stores and campuses to collect real-world data for model training. Beyond manufacturing, humanoid robots are expanding into China’s tourism and retail sectors. In theme parks like Chimelong Spaceship, companies such as Agibot (Zhiyuan) have deployed hundreds of robots for interactive games and education. In retail, robots are being used in shops and showrooms to greet customers and prepare food.
