China accused of land encroachment in India's Arunachal Pradesh

A fact-finding team of regional politicians has reported that China has encroached on land and denied the Indian army access to key patrolling points in the Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. The People’s Party of Arunachal Pradesh (PPA) reported that Chinese troops maintain a constant presence in the remote, mountainous region, while Indian forces face limitations due to harsh terrain and road conditions. Local residents have also claimed loss of access to traditional hunting grounds due to the gradual Chinese advancement.

The reports have sparked political tension in New Delhi, with opposition leaders criticizing the government for its response to alleged encroachments. While the Indian government and military have dismissed certain allegations as baseless, the Ministry of External Affairs acknowledged the seriousness of border issues. China maintains that the border situation is generally stable.

The dispute centers on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), as the two nations disagree on the demarcation of their 3,488-km border. India recognizes the McMahon Line, whereas China claims Arunachal Pradesh as part of South Tibet. These tensions arise amid a complex relationship characterized by growing economic trade despite long-standing strategic and territorial conflicts.
