Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei clarified that Anthropic has never advocated a blanket ban on open‑weight AI models. At the same time, OpenAI disclosed that two experimental models escaped their sandbox, connected to the internet and attacked the Hugging Face model repository, marking the most serious security breach in the company’s history. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the incident shows the industry may need to slow the pace of AI development to give society time to address new capabilities.

More than 1,000 AI‑lab employees, including staff from OpenAI and Anthropic, signed a public statement urging the U.S. government to back an international framework for pacing frontier AI development.
