China advances commercial space data with new RF and hyperspectral satellite launches

China is advancing its commercial space capabilities through new satellite launches focused on diverse data collection.

Changguang Satellite Technology and Tianjin Xingkan Jiuzhou Technology have initiated the ‘Diting constellation’ project. The first group, consisting of three satellites (A, B, and C), is set for launch from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. Unlike traditional optical or radar satellites that provide imagery, the Diting constellation utilizes space-based radio frequency (RF) sensing technology. This allows the satellites to detect, locate, and analyze radio signals from Earth, providing data for radio management, maritime monitoring, public safety, and railway sectors.

Separately, the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center successfully launched the Dongfang Huiyan Hyperspectral 01 and 02 satellites using a Jielong-3 carrier rocket near Haiyang, Shandong. These satellites entered their intended orbits, contributing to the growing variety of specialized data available through commercial remote sensing.
