China advances EV technology with ultra-fast charging and solar roofs

China is advancing significantly in electric vehicle (EV) technology, focusing on both ultra-fast charging infrastructure and integrated solar energy solutions. 1000 kW DC charging stations are emerging as a new standard, breaking previous limits of 350 kW. BYD has introduced its Super e-Platform with 1000 V architecture and Flash Charging, capable of adding 400 km of range in just 5 minutes. Additionally, Huawei has unveiled liquid-cooled charging stations with theoretical capacities of up to 1500 kW.

Parallel developments are targeting vehicle autonomy through solar integration. Fuyao Group has validated solar-integrated roofs ready for mass production, utilizing cells embedded in the glass. Meanwhile, Hongqi is developing a prototype using perovskite solar cells on its EHS7 model. These thin, flexible cells are designed to capture energy while vehicles are parked, potentially producing approximately 400 kWh annually, though commercial availability for the Hongqi prototype is still pending.
