China advances satellite mass-production and maritime launch capabilities

China has achieved significant milestones in satellite deployment and mass-production technology. On August 19, 2026, the Honghu 03 technical verification satellite successfully entered orbit via a Zhuque-3 rocket. Developed by Hongqing Technology, the satellite is designed to test pathways for mass-producing satellites to meet the growing demand for high-density low Earth orbit (LEO) constellations. The mission aims to validate core components, including the ‘Jinwu’ argon Hall electric propulsion system, large-scale flexible solar wings, and high-computing power onboard computers.

In a separate achievement on September 16, the Yinli-1 rocket successfully launched nine satellites from the East China Sea using the ‘Oriental Aerospace Port’ launch vessel. This mission set a new record for China's single maritime launch payload weight, with a net payload exceeding 3 tons. The launch delivered 26 groups of Qianfan polar orbit satellites and an EUHT technology test satellite to an altitude of approximately 800 kilometers. This mission is part of the Qianfan Constellation project, operated by Shanghai-based Yuanxin Satellite, which plans to deploy between 15,000 and 30,000 satellites to provide global connectivity.
