China and Egypt expand economic ties through investments and exports

China and Egypt are negotiating a major economic partnership that could involve up to $2 billion in new investment. The proposed deal aims to deepen bilateral ties by targeting critical sectors such as manufacturing, energy infrastructure, and telecommunications. A significant portion of this investment is expected to be directed toward the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), serving as a vital node within the Belt and Road Initiative framework.

In a separate development, Egypt’s Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade announced the signing of 17 export contracts worth approximately $168 million during an ‘Export to China’ event. The contracts, facilitated by joint efforts between Egyptian and Chinese ministries, cover a variety of goods including agricultural products like oranges and sugar cane, as well as minerals, copper, aluminum, textiles, and leather.

Egyptian Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid Saleh stated that the ministry is focused on expanding the exporter base and maximizing opportunities in priority markets like China. The goal is to move beyond product promotion toward building sustainable relationships and attracting Chinese investment into productive sectors to facilitate technology and expertise transfers.
