China and Hong Kong announce travel safety and holiday arrangements
As the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays approach, authorities in mainland China and Hong Kong have issued travel advisories and announced special transport arrangements.
In mainland China, the Ministry of Public Security's Traffic Management Bureau warned of increased risks due to overlapping holiday travel, including potential fatigue driving, speeding, and overcrowding. Key risks include surges in highway traffic in major clusters like the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta, as well as increased movement of seasonal workers in rural areas. Authorities advised drivers to maintain safe distances and follow specific safety protocols for tunnels, mountains, and rainy weather.
In Hong Kong, the Transport Department announced road closures and diversions from September 24 to 26 to accommodate the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance. To manage holiday crowds, MTR, light rail, trams, and ferries will extend service hours or increase frequency. Additionally, various sectors are launching promotions to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, including MTR offering 77,000 single-journey tickets, discounted airline fares, and free access to certain museums and cultural sites.
